Here is some more work for Lifestyle Illustration class. For this project we were each assigned a Vice and Virtue, mine being Gluttony and Temperance, respectively. We were also told to flex our hand type skills by incorporating the latin names for each theme into the piece.

Alright! Sorry for the two-month long hiatus, this blog needed a lot of work so I went through all the old entries and cleaned some of them up. There's still some stuff to be done, but for now I can go back to updating. These three pieces were made for Lifestyle Illustration class, where we had to cut out accessories from a magazine and create pieces around them. I found some nice photos of heels with socks and finally got to take a break from drawing feet for once!

Drawings I've done in the past few weeks, most of which are silly fanart.

Merida from Pixar's Brave and Korra from Avatar: The Legend of Korra, both of which won't air til next summer. Doesn't make them any less awesome though.

I was lucky enough to go to a bunch of fun concerts at the beginning of the summer, so here's a sort of "What I Wore" thing from those.

An illustration piece done in gouache and watercolor. It's a bit of a cynical take on the concept of love and marriage.

A sketch for another approach to the love illustration, this one being more about historical love. I might want to further develop this in the future, I like the sketch a lot but I figured the marriage one had a stronger concept.

This piece is made to illustrate a general theme presented in one of the RadioLab podcasts. I chose the episode about "Deception" and completed my final in acrylic with matt medium. I figured it might be fun to include some of the process sketches here too, though they're a bit messy.

The initial thumbnail sketch. Luckily for this project, I could instantly see how my final would look like just after this sparse sketch. Usually it takes a bit longer.

First rough sketch. Lately I like to do all of my prework on the computer. It's much easier to edit that way.

Tighter sketch. This one is missing some of the people on the right.

Color sketch.

Modified sketch. I moved the man in the center's head and arm, as well as changed the people on the right who are missing on the earlier sketches.

I figured I might as well change it up and post some photos here. I'm not really taking photo classes here at MICA, though I've taken some in the past. I got my parent's hand-me-down SLR for Christmas so I'm really just messing around with it. So if these are underwhelming, that's why. But they were fun :)

A digital piece for Narrative Illustration. The assignment was to create a cd for a song. I chose "The General" by Dispatch.

This was a four page comic I created for my Narrative Illustration final. It was made using graphite, ink, watercolor and a bit of gouache. The story was just something fluffy and lighthearted I wrote in half an hour.

A piece from last year done for Drawing, with my roomate Gracy as the model.

Another piece from last year, for Elements of Visual Thinking. This was my first experiment with gouache.

My family's Christmas card this year, which I drew by hand and then digitally colored.

Part 1 (of 4) of my Media Kitchen: Wet final. I decided to do a series of small paintings based on soldiers in Iraq. They're each only 5x6 in. This one was done with gouache and acrylic.

Part 2 of painting final. This piece was done using bombay ink, watercolor and gouache.

The third piece of 4. Made using acrylic paints with a drybrush technique, watercolor and gouache.

The final piece for the painting final, made using acrylic paints and matte medium.

A simple drawing done with gouache for Narrative Illustration. We were instructed to illustrate an article of our choice, and I chose one about Stu Rasmussen, America's first transgender mayor.

Another sketch for the same project. This one illustrates the part of the article where they recounted how the townspeople protested in defense of their mayor while dressed in drag.

And the final illustration for the article, a more finished piece to cover the overall feel of the article. I am actually planning to go back and add a bit of stubble so that Stu looks a bit more masculine, but otherwise it's a finished piece.
